Yue Minjun is a Chinese artist based in Beijing, China. The contemporary artist is well known for his oil paintings of his own grinning face in different settings. His art is often associated with the Chinese “Cynical Realist” movement, which was formed in 1989. Yue Minjun doesn’t like these categorizations. He prefers to see his art as a personal form of expression.
